Project restores a former bookstore
Guest room at Boada Riera hotel

Interior design by 4 Cadires studio
Boada Riera – Boutique Apartments has opened its doors in the historic center of Terrassa, transforming a protected building that once housed an old bookstore. Designed by the Sabadell-based studio 4 Cadires, the project offers six unique rooms that blend historical legacy with modern flex-living comfort.
A tribute to the literary past
Barcelona, 15/04/26
The interior design concept of Boada Riera stems from the building’s original use. Where shelves full of books once stood, 4 Cadires studio has created a narrative thread where each room tells its own story.
The central design element is the solid oak headboards, inspired by the shapes of the bookstore’s original shelving. These elements are not merely decorative but function as continuous pieces that organize the space while integrating lighting, mechanisms, and support surfaces. Through the use of custom murals, each room acquires a distinct character, fostering specific atmospheres that move away from the standard repetition found in traditional hotels.
Functional architecture and compact volumes
The spatial organization has been adapted to the pre-existing structure of this landmark urban building.
The staircase core remains the central axis, dividing each floor into two zones containing the 270-square-foot apartments. To optimize the area, a compact black volume was designed to house the bathroom, kitchen, and storage services. This architectural solution frees up the rest of the room, keeping the original ceilings visible, including the restored wooden beams on the top floor. The rooms are fully equipped for both short and long-term stays, featuring a kitchen and a bathroom with a double shower, tailored for the professional traveler.
Noble materials and chromatic strategy
The hotel’s material palette focuses on the warmth and durability required for hospitality use.
Solid oak, glazed ceramics, and acoustic wallpapers are combined with textiles that provide visual comfort. The herringbone porcelain flooring ensures aesthetic continuity throughout the building. Regarding color, the studio chose a neutral base punctuated by intense strokes linked to the landscapes in the murals. In the bathrooms, an intimate and dark space strategy was applied, where the shower stands out with a vivid color, becoming the center of well-being. The establishment already offers modern services such as contactless check-in and high-speed internet connection.
